Licensing

Once YM BioSciences has established the efficacy and commercial potential of a product, our philosophy is to co-develop or partner with multi-national or regional pharmaceutical companies for development and marketing and to share in product revenues.

Active In-Licensing Program
YM BioSciences' business is to in-license products at early stages of development and to advance those products along the clinical and regulatory pathway toward approval. Our product portfolio is the result of careful, rational identification and selection of investigational products from research institutions around the globe.

We are seeking differentiated molecules and technologies complementary to our existing programs, specifically in the oncology field.

YM BioSciences avoids the risks inherent in early-stage research. We are proud of our ability to rapidly secure regulatory approval for clinical trials and to initiate those trials. YM has successfully obtained, either directly or through its partners and licensees, Clinical Trial Applications (CTAs) and Investigational New Drug Applications (INDs) from regulatory authorities in more than 20 countries including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Japan. To the best of our knowledge, YM was the first company outside of the United States to receive a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) from the FDA.

Out-Licensing: Cultivating Partnerships
YM BioSciences out-licenses products to companies with broader marketing capabilities. In general, the structure of our out-licensing agreements includes royalties on the sale of products in addition to fees upon licensing and the achievement of milestones in the approval and launch process. Licensees assume responsibility and costs for all local expenditures and for obtaining timely regulatory approvals. Potential licensees for YM products may be established pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies with an existing oncology franchise or a significant regional entity with a commitment to entering the oncology arena.
